Soffit and fascia are both trim boards on a roof that protect the home, but they differ in location, purpose, and orientation:
Location: Soffit is installed underneath the eaves, while fascia is installed along the edge of the eaves.
Orientation: Soffit boards run horizontally, while fascia boards run vertically.
Purpose: Soffit protects rafters from the elements, while fascia protects the roofing and interior of the home.
Ventilation: Soffit can be vented to help air flow, while fascia cannot.
